Prince Zandar is a recurring character from the Disney Jr. animated series Sofia the First. He is a prince who attends Royal Preparatory Academy from the kingdom of Tangu, who is good friends with Prince James.
Physical appearance
Zandar is a young Middle Eastern prince with black hair and green eyes. He sports a white turban with red trim, a white kameez over a red shirt, kept in place by a navy belt, red trousers and black shoes.
Role in the series
Zandar first appeared in Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess. He stood up for Sofia, despite the teasing she received from her siblings. He was James' partner for the art project in "The Shy Princess". He showed off his pet elephant in "Blue Ribbon Bunny". He also made an appearance in the episode Princess Butterfly, dressed as the tail for Prince James and his dragon costume.
His major role was in the episode "Two to Tangu", when he hosted a party for all his friends.
Zandar is a fun-loving, thrill-seeking prince. He is much like his friend James in that regard. He is also very chivalrous, and he is always helping the princesses.
He seems to have some feelings for Princess Hildegard, as shown in "Two to Tangu" when he tried to impress her.
Trivia
- Given his appearance, Zandar may be a Prince from one of the Seven Deserts mentioned in the Aladdin TV series.
- Prince Zandar, being a best friend of James, is near him when he is not near Hildegard. They worked on their dragon costume and castle project together, for instance.
- He appears to share James' obsession with cannons and explosions, as the castle they built for their project was basically a huge cannon.
- Although elephants are traditionally native to Africa, the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia, he is shown to have a pet elephant, which is not native to the Middle East where Tangu appears to be located. However, it is possible that his parents imported the elephants from a neighboring kingdom.
- Zandar has almost never been seen without his turban, the sole exception being in the episode "Baileywick's Day Off" when he wears a red bandana. He even wears his turban over his hockey helmet as shown in "Lord of the Rink".
