|---|---|
| Mamanu | There you are, my magical, powerful beauty. At last, you are mine. And soon, the kingdom of Hakalo will be too. |
| Princess Lani | No! Put that back! It belongs to my family. |
| Lani and Mamanu fight over the key; they lose their grip of it and fall off the ship and into the ocean. | |
| Princess Lani | Mom! Dad! |
| King Kamea | Lei-Lani? Lei-Lani? |
| Princess Lani | Help! |
| Queen Halia | Lei-Lani? Are you up here? She fell overboard. |
| King Kamea | Men, the princess has fallen in the ocean. And the Emerald Key is gone. |
| Queen Halia | Don't worry, my sweet girl. We will find you. |
| Princess Lani | Wait. Don't go. Come back. |
| Cut to the beach on a cloudy day. | |
| King Roland II | Miranda, looks like a storm's moving in. We should head back. |
| Queen Miranda | Let's pack up, everyone. |
| Princess Sofia | All right, Mom. She sees the Emerald Key washed up on the shore. Look at that. |
| Clover | That's a fancy-looking key. |
| Princess Sofia | I think it's made of emerald. Look what I found. |
| Prince James | Hey, it's glowing. |
| Princess Sofia | Dad, do you think it's magical? |
| King Roland II | I don't know. I've never seen anything like it before. |
| Queen Miranda | Well, we have books about magical jewels in the library. |
| Princess Sofia | Maybe we can check when we get back. |
| It starts to rain. | |
| King Roland II | Oh. Time to go. |
| Mamanu | They have the key. But how will I get it back? I know. I'll tell them that it's my key. And once I get the key, I will have my revenge on Hakalo. Crystal of night and air, make me a princess fair. |
| Lightning strikes on the crystal; Mamanu laughs. Cut to Enchancia Castle later that day. | |
| Princess Amber | Ooh, 1,001 Tiaras: The Ultimate Guide to Being a Classic Princess. Ah, I love this book. |
| King Roland II | Aha, here it is. The Complete Guide to Magical Jewels. |
| Princess Sofia | There. |
| Queen Miranda | Oh, I think that's it. |
| Princess Sofia | "The Emerald Key of Hakalo. The kingdom of Hakalo is a hidden island. Only the Emerald Key can unlock the passage to this island kingdom." |
| King Roland II | It says the key belongs to the royal family of Hakalo. |
| Queen Miranda | I've never even heard of that kingdom. |
| King Roland II | Well, I always thought it was a legend, not a real place. |
| Baileywick | Your Majesty, there is a visitor at the door who says she is the princess of Hakalo. |
| Princess Sofia | The Princess of Hakalo? |
| Princess Amber | Where's the princess? |
| Princess Lani | Right here. I'm Princess Lei-Lani of Hakalo. But everyone calls me Lani. Sorry I'm dripping everywhere. I fell off my royal ship last night and washed up on your beach. |
| Queen Miranda | Oh, you poor thing. |
| Princess Lani | Someone was trying to steal my family's Emerald Key. And when I tried to stop her, we fell overboard. I don't know what to do now. Without that key, my family and I can never get home. |
| Queen Miranda | It's okay, Lani. |
| Princess Sofia | We found your key. |
| Princess Lani | Oh. You don't know how happy that makes me. |
| Someone knocks on the door. | |
| Baileywick | I'll get it. |
| He opens the door to reveal another Lani but with lighter skin and green eyes. | |
| Princess Lei-Lani | Greetings, Your Majesties. I am Princess Lei-Lani of Hakalo. |
| Queen Miranda | Wait, what? |
| Princess Sofia | What? Huh? |
| Princess Lei-Lani | I see you've found my Emerald Key. |
| Princess Sofia | But wait. She said she was Princess Lei-Lani. |
| Princess Lani | I am Princess Lei-Lani! |
| Princess Lei-Lani | She's lying! I am the real princess. She's trying to steal my key, just like that awful woman last night. |
| Princess Lani | You're the one who's lying. It's my key. I need it to get home. You have to give it to me. |
| Princess Lei-Lani | You can't give it to her. |
| King Roland II | We're not giving the key to either of you until we figure out which one of you is telling the truth. |
| Queen Miranda | And that may take some time. So let's, let's get you two dried off first. |
| Baileywick | Right this way, ladies. |
| King Roland II | I'll send messengers out to sea to look for the King and Queen of Hakalo. They must be worried sick about their daughter. |
| Princess Sofia | Who do you think is the real princess? |
| Princess Amber | It's Lei-Lani. Just look at her gown. |
| Prince James | Lei-Lani does seem more princessy. |
| Princess Amber | And Lani's so-called crown is just flowers. Not diamond flowers, real flowers. |
| Princess Sofia | But Lani could still be a princess. I wish there was a way to know who's telling the truth. |
| Princess Amber | There is. We'll give them a test. Oh! Oh, Daddy. |
| King Roland II | We have decided that the best way to determine which of you is the true princess is to hold a test. |
| Queen Miranda | The test will have three challenges. |
| Princess Amber | All taken from 1,001 Tiaras: The Ultimate Guide to Being a Classic Princess. |
| King Roland II | I will judge the test, with a little help from the royal family. And whoever does better will get the key. |
| Princess Lani | I have to do all that just to get my own key back? |
| Princess Lei-Lani | You mean my key. And I am happy to do whatever you require. Thank you, Your Majesty. |
| Baileywick | The first challenge will take place in the ballroom. Please, follow me. |
| Cut to the ballroom. | |
| Baileywick | The handbook says, "A princess must be graceful." So for this first challenge, you will dance. And we'll see which of you has the grace of a true princess. You may begin. |
| King Roland II | Lei-Lani is waltzing wonderfully. |
| Princess Amber | What is Lani doing? |
| Prince James | I don't know, but it's funny. |
| Princess Sofia | I like it. Lani, what is that dance? |
| Princess Lani | It's called the "Swaying Blossom." It's the first dance everyone learns in Hakalo. |
| Princess Lei-Lani | Unless you're a princess. In which case you learn to waltz. |
| Princess Amber | The waltz is the most royal dance of all. I think it's quite clear that this round goes to Lei-Lani. |
| Princess Sofia | I don't know, Amber. Lani's dance may be strange, but it's still graceful. |
| Queen Miranda | I agree. |
| King Roland II | Hmm, it is a nice dance. Not as graceful as Lei-Lani's waltz. Lei-Lani wins this challenge. |
| Princess Lei-Lani | Wonderful. |
| King Roland II | Baileywick, let's move on to the next challenge. |
| Baileywick | To the throne room, everyone. |
| Cut to the outside of Enchancia Castle and then to the throne room. | |
| Baileywick | "A princess must always be polite." In this next challenge, we will be watching to see how good your manners are. James will pretend to be a duke. |
| Prince James | The Duke of Jameslandia. |
| Baileywick | Now, ladies, pretend these presents are from the duke. Please open them, and show us how you would politely thank him. |
| Princess Lei-Lani | Oh, how nice of you to give me such a wonderful... snail? How disgusting. Why would you give me such a hideous thing? |
| Princess Amber | That's no way to open a gift. |
| Princess Lani | Wow, my very own snail. It's so pretty. |
| Princess Amber | You think it's pretty? |
| Princess Lani | Yes, the shell reminds me of some of my seashells back home. |
| Prince James | Does the Duke of Jameslandia give great gifts or what? |
| Princess Lani | I love it. Thank you. |
| Princess Lei-Lani | Um, excuse me, everyone. I believe I misspoke earlier when I called the snail hideous. I meant to say, adorable. And I thank you for your generosity. |
| Princess Sofia | I thought Lani was much nicer when she opened the gift. |
| Princess Amber | But Lei-Lani curtsied when she thanked James. |
| Queen Miranda | But Lani sounded more sincere. And gracious. |
| King Roland II | I agree. Lani wins this challenge. |
| Princess Sofia | That means it's even. |
| Princess Lei-Lani | But I should've won. I curtsied. She didn't curtsey. Whoa! [Knocks the cups off the tray held by Violet] Oh. My apologies. Here, let me help. |
| Violet | Thank you, m'lady. |
| King Roland II | Now, girls, because we have a tie, whoever wins the next challenge wins the test. Baileywick? |
| Baileywick | I'm afraid the next challenge takes place outside, and it's still raining, Your Majesty. |
| Queen Miranda | Okay, girls, we'll have to continue the test in the morning. But we invite you to stay in the castle tonight as our guests. |
| Princess Lani | I don't have time for that. My family's out there somewhere and we need that key to get home. [She runs outside, where she places the snail near a plant before freeing Clover from a bucket. Sofia witnesses this.] Oh. Hey there, little fella. Did you get stuck in there looking for a snack? Don't worry, I'll find you one. [Gives Clover a blueberry, which he eats.] Let me dry you off, poor thing. You're soaking wet. |
| Princess Sofia | Lani, are you okay? |
| Princess Lani | Not really. No one believes I'm the real princess, do they? |
| Princess Sofia | Well, we're just not sure yet. |
| Princess Lani | If I don't get the Emerald Key back, my family can't go home. Could you imagine never being able to go home again? |
| Princess Sofia | No, I couldn't. |
| Princess Lani | You know, Sofia, I may not know how to waltz or dress as fancy as everyone else, but that doesn't mean I'm not a princess.
♪ I may dance quite differently than you |
| Princess Sofia | You're right, Lani. That's exactly how a princess should act. And it's the way you've been acting all day with Violet and Clover, which means you're the real princess. |

| She escorts her; outside, the other Lani watches and reveals herself to be Mamanu in disguise. | |
| Mamanu | Hmm. It looks like I'll have to make extra sure that little princess fails tomorrow's challenge. I know just the thing. [takes out an enchanted ring] My magic will ruin Lani's sleep. She'll be exhausted for the final test! |
| She enters Lani's room unnoticed and places the ring under the mattress, making it all floppy and hard. | |
